About This Series

In this series we will use the breath as a tool to reset our nervous systems as well as invite gentle stretches to reconnect with our bodies. This class is appropriate for all levels and is instructed through a Trauma-Informed Yoga lens; the focus being to create a safe place for you to explore how the mind and body connect and how we can use the breath to strengthen that connection.

Each session will begin with exploring our breath and a mindfulness practice, followed by gentle yoga and finishing with an optional meditation or final resting pose. Participants will also receive takeaway materials each class such as journal prompts/exercises, meditation scripts and playlists to help ease symptoms of anxiety, stress, depression & PTSD.

A note about this series from Meg: “This approach is a different than a mainstream yoga or meditation practice, mainly because it focuses on understanding our minds and how trauma rewires the brain. We are all living through a collective traumatic experience with the current global health pandemic. This word ‘trauma’ can be defined as anything that overwhelms our capacity to cope and leaves us feeling helpless, hopeless, out of control or unable to respond. It is equally important to recognize that trauma exists on a spectrum, and what may feel incapacitating for one of us might not for the other. In this type of class we use empowering language to encourage autonomy and choice and explore reconnecting back into the body when stress/anxiety/trauma has caused us to dissociate. We do this through the establishing a relationship between our breath and movement, and working to still the mind so we can truly listen to what our body is telling us it needs.”
